The first of the three cast changes has been announced for the Antwerp run of the Dutch production of SHREK, currently playing the RAI Theatre in Amsterdam. Chris van den Purpel will be playing the role of SHREK in Antwerp, taking over from William Spaaij.

Van den Purpel is mostly known for his on-screen comedy performances on Belgian television and as a voice actor for various animated movies. He also played roles in the original Belgian musicals KUIFJE and DEANS.

The Amsterdam production of SHREK opened to critical acclaim on November 4th for a 3-month run, which was recently extended to March 2013. Except for the three principal roles of Shrek, Princess Fiona and Lord Farquaad, the Antwerp production and cast will be identical to the Amsterdam one. The Belgium run will be co-produced by Antwerp-based Music Hall.

SHREK will open in Antwerp on March 24th, play a limited four-week run and return to Amsterdam afterwards.
